Contemporary Concrete House in Herne Bay

Love modern architecture and design? The contemporarily shaped structure of concrete, glass and black metal is the new project located in Herne Bay, New Zealand and carried out by Daniel Marshall Architects. The project has an untypical location; the region is with recognized significant heritage and character of the area so the house facade must integrate contemporary New Zealand ideas in design and architecture, while maintaining the language of classic villa emanation.

Contemporary inside and out, with some delicious details of the interior decor, like the  sculpture designers’ lamps, or the thin plastic shapes of the furniture, all laid on elegant decor borderline minimalistic. The material palette that is visible on the outside facade, with its somewhat industrial presence of concrete, large glass surfaces and dark metal constructs is softened at the interior with the warm wooden cladding and furnishing, modern soft textures and elegantly light glass structures. The restrained color palate is set primarily in the neutral and natural spectrum of gray reflecting the concrete, beige – like the sophisticated wood, and white: a transparent solution like the glass, all a definition of contemporary elegance.   Photographs: Simon Devitt
